Alliance Medical signs the Armed Forces Covenant and gains Bronze Employer Recognition Scheme status

March 21, 2023

Alliance Medical are extremely proud to have officially signed the Armed Forces Covenant - a voluntary pledge that supports the Armed Forces Community.

Read on to discover more about our commitment to the Armed Forces, the full details of the Covenant, and what it will mean for our Alliance Medical colleagues...

Sway Hall was selected as our Armed Forces Engagement Lead at Alliance Medical and is a serving Officer with The Cadet Force. Sway will be on-hand to offer advice and guidance to the team at Alliance Medical, which includes Veterans and families of serving personnel.

Sway says:

"I'm delighted to announce our Armed Forces Covenant has been accepted, and we have been invited to apply for Bronze status.

At Alliance Medical, I'm known as the Medical Emergency Assessor but, outside of work, I'm the Medical Officer for Somerset Battalion The Rifles (ACF), providing medical advice, provision and support across four companies. I'm delighted, therefore, to be able to introduce the Armed Forces Covenant to Alliance Medical, with the full support of our UK board. They've pledged to support the employment of veterans young and old, recognising military skills and qualifications in its recruitment and selection process. We'll also support our employees who have ambitions to be members of reserve forces, and ACF, accommodating their training and deployment requirements where possible."

There will be lots of opportunities for our employees to get involved and show their support through fundraising, attending events and becoming mentors.

As a key part of this pledge, we will also be supporting individuals leaving the forces to find new careers. We’re dedicated to offering opportunities to quality employees who’ll bring a variety of transferable skills (developed throughout their Military careers) into our diverse culture at Alliance Medical.

Read the full covenant below:

This Covenant is between The People of the United Kingdom, His Majesty’s Government and all those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces of the Crown and their families, and there are several duties that we as a business must adhere to as part of this agreement:

Section 1: Principles of The Armed Forces Covenant

1.1 We, Alliance Medical Ltd, will endeavour to uphold the key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant:

• Members of the Armed Forces Community should not face disadvantages arising from their service in the provision of public and commercial services.

• In some circumstances special provisions may be justified, especially for those who have given the most, such as the injured or bereaved.

Section 2: Demonstrating our Commitment

2.1 We recognise the contribution that Service personnel, reservists, veterans, the cadet movement (ACF/CCF) and military families make to our organisation, our community and to the country. We will seek to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by:

• Promoting the Armed Forces: promoting the fact that we are an Armed Forces-friendly organisation, to our staff, customers, suppliers, contractors and wider public.

• Employment support to members of the Armed Forces Community: supporting the employment of reservists, veterans, and members of the ACF recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process; working with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to support the employment of Service leavers

• Reserves: supporting our employees who are members of the Reserve Forces; granting additional paid/unpaid leave for annual Reserve Forces training; supporting any mobilisations and deployment; actively encouraging members of staff to become Reservists

• Cadet Organisations: supporting our employees who are volunteer leaders in ACF/CCF organisations, granting additional leave to attend annual training camps and courses; actively encouraging members of staff to become volunteer leaders in cadet organisations; supporting local military cadet units; recognising the benefits of employing cadets/ex-cadets within the workforce.

• Communications, engagement, and outreach: Support National Events: Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal Day and Remembrance activities, supporting Armed Forces charities with fundraising and supporting staff who volunteer to assist.  Appoint an Armed Forces Engagement Lead within our organisation to act as a focal point for organising and promoting support for the Armed Forces Community.

• Commercial Support: offering a discount to members of the Armed Forces community. Develop relationships and work collaboratively with other organisations supporting the Covenant and the Armed Forces Community.

• Commercial: We will publicise our commitments through our literature, on staff notices, and on our website, setting out how we will seek to honour them and inviting feedback from the Service community, our staff and our customers on how we are doing.

• Health: Offering free to access Diagnostic Scans (MRI & CT) Physiotherapy, Remote GP, Mental Health Support and Second Opinion for employees and their families.

• Education: Offering continued professional development and extended learning opportunities through our apprenticeships and academies.

2.2 We will publicise these commitments through our website and social media pages, setting out how we will seek to honour them and inviting feedback from the Armed Forces Community and our customers on how we are doing.

We recognise the contribution that Service personnel, both regular and reservist, veterans and military families make to our organisation, our community and to the country which is why we’re delighted to have signed to announce that we’ve gained our Employer Recognition Scheme at Bronze status – as part of the Covenant, this voluntary pledge that the business has chosen to sign is to demonstrate our support for the Armed Forces Community – this is a decision that we are extremely proud of and is a massive step forward for the business.
